OMAN: Trade, investment discussed with Tanzanian speaker



Muscat — Yahya bin Said al Jabri, Chairman of the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (SEZAD), received yesterday Anne Makinda, Speaker of the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania, and her accompanying delegation.

The meeting discussed the possible aspects of cooperation between the Sultanate and Tanzania.
SEZAD Chairman explained to the guest the investment opportunities of the special economic zone of Duqm, in addition to the competitive features of the Zone and facilities offered by the SEZAD.


On her turn, the guest expressed her admiration with the achievements of the Sultanate during the era of modern renaissance, praising the Sultanate’s aim to diversify sources of national income through establishing the economic zone of Duqm, modern ports network and free zones, in addition to promoting the SMEs, tourism, agriculture and fisheries sector.


Meanwhile, Dr Salim bin Nasser al Ismaili, Chairman of the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (PAIPED) “ITHRAA” received in his office Anne Makinda and her accompanying delegation. The meeting aimed to familiarise the PAIPED goals in business development, investment and enhancing the Omani exports exchange.

PAIPED Chairman stressed that Tanzania is one of the most prominent countries on the PAIPED map and considered as a gateway to the African market, expressing the necessity of activating a strong trade relations with the Tanzania to benefit both sides and contribute in developing the economy of the two countries.

On her turn, the guest reviewed some aspects of investment in her country in tourism, agriculture and industry, as well as the requirements of the Tanzanian and African markets for varied raw materials, which can be met by the Sultanate by sourcing Omani products.

Dr Rashid bin Salim al Masroori, CEO of the Public Authority for Stores and Food Reserve (PASFR), also received in his Office yesterday Anne Makinda and her accompanying delegation.

The meeting discussed cooperation between the two countries and matters of common concern, besides discussing the diversification of the Sultanate overseas food investment, especially with Tanzania, particularly in basic food commodities.
The meeting was attended by a number of PASFR officials. —
