Shein to officiate Nane Nane agricultural exhibition in Lindi

Zanzibar President Ali Mohamed Shein
Zanzibar President Ali Mohamed Shein is on Saturday expected to officiate this year’s Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition to be held at the national level in Lindi from August 1 to 8.
Briefing reporters yesterday, the Tanzania Agricultural Society (TASO) chairman, Engelbert Moyo, said all preparations for the occasion were ready. He therefore called on farmers, agro-dealers and other players to take part in the annual event, because of its countless opportunities.
Sponsored by Tigo Tanzania, it is expected to attract 250 exhibitors from the telecom sector, mining, agro-processing, energy, forestry, tourism, livestock and bee-keeping industry.
“All key government institutions will also take part in the exhibition. They include ministries of Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives; Industries and Trade; Natural Resources and Tourism; Energy and Minerals; Livestock Development and Fisheries; Home Affairs as well as Defence and National Service,” Moyo said.
He explained that, among other things, the exhibition focuses on showing achievements that have been made in the sectors, strategies to boost production and challenges facing the country’s farmers.
“Farmers, who are main stakeholders in this show, will get an opportunity to learn various techniques for improving productivity in farming, livestock keeping, fishing and cooperatives,” he said.
He noted that similar exhibitions will also be conducted in various zones for the benefit of all farmers.
Tigo Corporate Communications Manager, John Wanyancha, said the low cost of smart-phones is part of the company’s objective to promote digital lifestyle transformation. This is through giving Tanzanians access to Internet through mobile phones, according to him.
Wanyancha said: “We can all bear witness to how agriculture firmly contributes to our country’s socioeconomic welfare.
“Almost 80 per cent of Tanzania’s workforce is employed in agriculture. Therefore farmers have a very significant contribution to our society.”
He said farmers and visitors to this year’s Nanenane exhibition can look forward to acquiring highly discounted smart-phones from Tigo. This is among its efforts to make many Tanzanians access online contents.
“Our aim is to expose people to the world of unlimited social and economic opportunities. We encourage visitors to the Nanenane exhibition to visit the Tigo pavilion and view our broad range of digital products.
“Most important of all, they could walk away with an Internet connected smart-phone bought at a highly discounted price,” Wanyancha said.
Other products to be displayed by the company at Nanenane, include Tigo Kilimo – a service tailored to meet farmers’ needs by giving them various information. This includes availability of fertilizer, markets for their products and weather forecasts.
