10 things you should totally STOP doing!

  • #10 is an absolute must.
Raise your hand if you have a habit of pressing the 'C' (clear) button in the calculator multiple times. Come on. The devicedoes get it, when you do it once.

There are many such pointless practices which we should give up on, still we do them inadvertently. The Guardian has listed 20 such items and you will be surprised at the time you have wasted on these practices -- you could have been a millionaire by now!

So how many of these do you fall for?

1. Washing your hair everyday

We are living in the middle of a desert, but please, the city isn't as dusty as you think. Your hair will survive, even if you don't wash them everyday. Washing too many times can do more harm than good, dermatologist and director of Boston Medical Center's hair clinic Lynne Goldberg told Business Insider."People who wash their hair a lot to get rid of oil are drying out their scalp and producing more oil," Goldberg said.

2. Ordering from the top-right-hand corner of a menu

This is one of the common menu hacks that restaurants use to make you spend more. Known as the 'sweet spot', many restaurants place the dish they want to sell the most (often an expensive one) in that location. So use your god-gifted eyes to scan the entire menu card before casually gravitating towards the upper right-hand corner.

3. Communication with words

Have your grandparents got used to Emojis in the digital age? Well, so should you. It doesn't matter which country you reside in, or which language you speak, the language of love and Emojis can be read and understood by one and all.

4. Pressing the 'close door' button in a lift

When you're inside that metal box, you don't have any control. The lift door isn't going to shut right at the face of your intimidating boss, so relax! Let the elevator do its job.

5. Standing in queue at the departure gate at the airport

The moment we hear a boarding announcement, we get up from our seats, lift our heavy bags on our shoulders, wrestle our way to the front of the queue, step on other people's toes; and even knock down other passengers. Is it really necessary? You have paid for the flight, you've already checked in at the boarding gate and the flight won't leave without you. Sit down!

6. Maintaining a CD collection

Who watches or listens to CDs in the age of Netflix, YouTube, and the world wide web? Throw that trash away from your cupboard and make space for a photo with your favourite pet, if you may.

7. Learning how to tell the time on analog clocks

The clock is ticking... And it's time to read the time better. Why bother with dial clocks when every mobile phone does that anyway?

8. Daytime naps

Researchers suggest that napping for more than an hour during the day could be a warning sign for type-2 diabetes, reports BBC. According to the researchers, "There is a link between long daytime naps of more than 60 minutes and a 45% increased risk of type-2 diabetes, compared with no daytime napping - but there was no link with naps of less than 40 minutes."

9. Buying lottery ticket

There are more chances of you becoming a millionaire by not wasting your money on a lottery ticket, than buying one.

10. Peeling vegetables

Wash your vegetables well, instead of simply getting rid the outer layer. That way you're just tossing the nutritious fiber in the trash.
